For The Rubicon this month, I was assigned to write a story on the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. I first published a preview of the festival online to kick off the celebration and a full review of mine will be published later this month in The Rubicon for the January/February issue.
In my review, I talked about the various activities that the carnival held for anyone to enjoy, and the views of the sunset over the river made for some spectacular moments. But as usual, one of my favorite parts was people watching. It was so inspiring and heart-warming to see firsthand how people from different parts of the city were all coming together to enjoy a night bundled up in the cold. People were dancing, singing and just having fun meeting new people.
This is one more reason why photography is so important to me- it shows more than just the food or activities offered at an event like the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, it shows the spirit of the people who made it so special.
